Live Dealer Glossary: Terms, Streaming, Providers, Rules and Responsible Play
A plain-English glossary for live dealer terms. Definitions are educational and should not be treated as operator recommendations, legal advice, strategy, bonus advice or proof of availability.
How to use this glossary
Use this page to understand terminology. For exact game rules, use the game-specific guide. For legal, tax, operator, app or bonus questions, verify official sources and current terms.
Basic table terms
- Betting window
- The period when users can place bets before a round starts. The length varies by game, provider and operator. Do not rush a bet because a timer is short.
- Dealer
- The person who runs a live table or hosts a round. Dealers do not control random outcomes and should not be blamed for results.
- Presenter
- A host for game-show or entertainment-style live formats. A presenter may explain the round but does not make a game safer or more profitable.
- Table limit
- The minimum and maximum bet allowed at a table. Higher limits increase potential loss exposure and should not be treated as better.
- Seat
- A player position at a live table. Some games use limited seats, while others use unlimited or shared-seat models.
- Behind betting
- A feature that may let users bet behind a seated blackjack player. Rules, payouts and decision control vary by table.
- Round
- One completed hand, spin, draw or game-show result. Settlement rules depend on the exact game and operator terms.
- Void round
- A round cancelled under table rules, technical rules or operator terms. Check how accepted bets are handled before playing.
- Disconnect rule
- The rule that explains what happens if the stream or connection drops during a round. It can differ by operator and game.
- Bet settlement
- The process of grading a bet as won, lost, pushed or void. Settlement can depend on provider feed, operator rules and dispute process.
- Rules panel
- The in-game screen or document that explains payouts, side bets, table limits and special rules. Read it for the exact table, not just the game category; the broader source-check workflow is in how live dealer games work.
- Paytable
- A table showing possible payouts for bets or side bets. Paytables vary by variant and can change the risk profile.
- Payout cap
- A maximum payout limit for a game, table, bonus round or operator. A high cap does not make a game safer or more likely to pay.
- Side bet
- An optional wager separate from the main game. Side bets can carry higher volatility and different house-edge examples; live blackjack side-bet caveats are covered in the live blackjack rules guide.
- Dealer change
- A scheduled or operational change of dealer. It does not change the randomness of the game.
- Push
- A tied blackjack outcome where the wager is usually returned. Exact handling depends on the table rules.
- Shoe
- A device or setup that holds multiple decks for card games. Number of decks and shuffle rules vary by table.
- Burn card
- A card removed from play under table procedure. It is part of game operations, not a prediction signal.
- Accepted bet
- A wager that the table interface has confirmed before betting closes. If the display does not show confirmation, do not assume a tap was accepted.
- Late bet
- A wager attempt made after the betting window closes. Late bets may be rejected, ignored or handled by table software rules.
- No more bets
- The point when the dealer or interface closes the betting window. On mobile, stop tapping when this appears and check whether any previous bet was accepted.
- Bet history
- An account or table record showing recent wagers and settlements. Use it to verify a result after a stream issue or balance question, especially when following mobile reconnect checks.
Technology and streaming terms
- Live stream
- The video feed from a studio or casino-style environment. Quality can vary by device, network, geography and table load.
- Latency
- The delay between studio action and what appears on a device. Latency varies by connection, provider, browser, device and operator setup.
- OCR
- Optical Character Recognition: a result-capture technology that may scan cards, numbers or table objects. Exact systems vary by provider and game.
- RFID
- Radio-frequency identification that may be used in some table setups to identify cards, chips or equipment. Availability depends on provider and game.
- Game Control Unit
- A studio or table system that helps transmit game events. The details are provider-specific and not a user guarantee.
- CDN
- A content delivery network used to deliver video streams. Stream quality can still vary by network, operator and geography.
- Multi-camera view
- A presentation feature showing multiple angles. It can help visibility but does not change odds or rules.
- Chat moderation
- A system or person that manages chat behavior. Do not share personal details or use chat pressure as a reason to continue gambling.
- Geolocation prompt
- A device or browser request used to confirm location. A prompt appearing does not mean access is legal or approved.
- KYC prompt
- A request for identity, age, address or account verification. KYC can affect deposits, withdrawals and account access.
- Mobile browser access
- Live dealer access through Safari, Chrome or another browser. It is not the same as an official app-store app.
- PWA
- A website saved to a home screen. It can look app-like while still being browser-based.
- APK
- An Android app package installed outside Google Play. Sideloading can increase authenticity, permission and update risks.
- Reconnect
- The process of returning to a table after a connection drop. Check how accepted bets and interrupted rounds are handled.
- Stream quality
- The clarity, stability and responsiveness of the video feed. Do not treat quality as guaranteed across devices; use the mobile live dealer guide for stream and device caveats.
- Portrait mode
- A phone orientation that may make video larger but can hide rules, chat or chip controls. Check total stake visibility before betting; see mobile layout checks.
- Landscape mode
- A phone orientation that may improve table visibility. It does not reduce gambling risk or guarantee that every control is easier to read; see mobile layout checks.
- Rebet button
- A control that repeats a previous wager. It can be convenient, but it can also make repeated betting too easy on mobile; see mobile UX stop signals.
- Undo button
- A control that removes or reverses a pending selection before betting closes. Confirm it actually changes the total stake display; see mobile control checks.
- Total stake display
- The area showing how much is currently selected for a round. If it is hard to read on mobile, do not use the table.
- Rules overlay
- A panel or pop-up showing rules and paytables. Make sure it is readable on the device and does not hide key responsible-gambling tools.
- Geolocation failure
- A failed location check. It can happen because of device settings, network routing, unsupported market access or operator rules.

- Crazy Time

- A live money-wheel format. Simple rules do not make outcomes safe or predictable.

- A Playtech live game-show format. Availability and rules depend on operator and jurisdiction.
- Game provider
- The company supplying the live game product. Provider presence does not prove that an operator is legal or suitable for every user.

- Operator integration
- The way an operator connects provider games, account systems, cashier rules and responsible-gambling tools. Integration can affect availability and user experience.
- Lobby filter
- A menu or search filter used to find live dealer tables. Filters can hide unavailable games or mix provider labels, so confirm the table name and rules.

- The official rules for a specific table or variant. Use this over generic guide language when payout, fee or settlement details differ; the live dealer mechanics guide explains why table-level rules matter.
- Side-bet paytable
- The payout table for an optional side bet. Side-bet terms can differ from the main game and may carry higher volatility.
Bonus and payment terms

- The percentage of a wager that counts toward bonus wagering. It varies by operator, game type and promotion terms; see wagering requirements for the broader term.
- Wagering requirements
- Bonus rules that define how much eligible wagering is required before bonus funds or winnings may be withdrawn. Live dealer games may be excluded or counted differently.
- Excluded games
- Games that do not count toward a bonus or cannot be played with bonus funds. Always check official terms; the user-facing overview is what are wagering requirements.
- Max bet while wagering

- An operator check before paying a withdrawal. It can include KYC, payment method review, fraud checks or bonus-term review.
