Illinois Lottery 2026: Games, Online Tickets and Prize Claims
Choose the purchase channel, preserve the ticket or account record, use the right deadline and claim through one current official route.
Illinois Lottery retail and official online purchases are limited to eligible adults.
The exact game determines whether both channels or retail only are available.
The physical ticket or official account record controls the claim path.
Lottery Internet play does not authorize casino games or casino accounts.

Reviewed against current Illinois law, Lottery rules and official Illinois Lottery, IDOR and NCPG records on July 26, 2026.
Illinois Lottery Play-to-Claim Navigator
Select how the play was purchased, the product’s deadline family and the value of one winning ticket or online wager. The result identifies the record to keep, available route, deadline clock and the privacy/tax threshold. It does not validate the win or guarantee payment.
Use one claim route for the same ticket. After an e-Claim, do not also mail the ticket; keep the signed original secure until payment.
Purchase record by channel
| Purchase channel | Keep | Controlling boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Retail printed ticket | Sign the designated back area; photograph or copy both sides; secure the original; record the game, purchase/draw details and expected amount. | An unsigned ticket is a bearer instrument. The original valid ticket and Lottery validation control; lost/stolen assertion or a scan is not enough. |
| Official online account | Save the game, purchase/transaction record, date and time, amount, account email/name and any claim receipt. Keep account identity current. | The central account record controls; the claim identity must match the registered account. Do not print a simulated ticket as proof. |
| Fast Play Scan-N-Play printed ticket | Keep and sign the printed Fast Play ticket, copy both sides and record the purchase time. | Scan-N-Play produces a retail physical ticket. The app interaction does not convert it into an online-account ticket. |
Claim route by single-ticket prize
| Single-ticket / online-wager value | Retail or Scan-N-Play route | Official online-account route | Additional action |
|---|---|---|---|
| $599 or less | A retailer selling the game must redeem a validated ticket when adequate ticket-sales funds are available. If adequate funds are unavailable, Claim Center appointment, mail or e-Claim are alternatives. | Automatically posted to the account wallet unless the win causes total balance to exceed $2,000; then the Lottery issues a check. Wallet winnings can be transferred by ACH or requested by check under current account rules. | This ticket alone is below $1,000, but several prizes combined in one payment can trigger Illinois withholding and Form IL-5754. Do not call the prize tax-free. |
| Exactly $600 | Do not promise retailer redemption. Use a Claim Center appointment, mail or e-Claim, or confirm the current route with the Player Hotline. | Current official terms say the win posts to the wallet unless it causes total balance to exceed $2,000; then the Lottery issues a check. Wallet winnings can be transferred by ACH or requested by check under current account rules. | The physical-ticket route is separate because higher-precedence sources cap retailer redemption at $599 or less. Several prizes combined in one payment can still cross the $1,000 Illinois threshold. |
| $601–$999 | Claim Center appointment, mail or e-Claim. | Complete a claim through Claim Center appointment, mail or e-Claim; account identity must match. | This ticket alone is below $1,000, but several prizes combined in one payment can trigger Illinois withholding and Form IL-5754. Do not call the prize tax-free. |
| $1,000–$10,000 | Claim Center appointment, mail or e-Claim. | Claim Center appointment, mail or e-Claim; account identity must match. | Illinois withholding applies to the single payment and Form IL-5754 is required. |
| $10,001–$25,000 | Claim Center appointment or mail; e-Claim is not available. | Claim Center appointment or mail; e-Claim is not available. | Illinois withholding/form threshold applies. |
| $25,001–$249,999 | Claim Center appointment or mail; high-tier processing applies. | Claim Center appointment or mail; high-tier processing applies. | A direct-deposit election is available for prizes greater than $25,000 with the original form and voided check; Illinois withholding/form threshold applies. |
| $250,000–$999,999 | Claim Center appointment or mail; high-tier processing applies. | Claim Center appointment or mail; high-tier processing applies. | Direct-deposit election is available; request name/municipality confidentiality in writing at claim time if wanted. Without that claim-time request, the Lottery says it routinely publishes the winner’s name, home city and amount; FOIA can still require disclosure. |
| $1,000,000 or more | Call 1-800-252-1775, option 9, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. CT. Claim only at a Department prize center or administrative office, or at an alternate site agreed by the Department and claimant; absent extenuating circumstances, by appointment. Do not mail. | Use the same Hotline and Department-site claim route; keep account identity and transaction record. Do not mail. | Make the confidentiality request at claim time if wanted. Without it, the Lottery says it routinely publishes the winner’s name, home city and amount; the request is not absolute under FOIA. Illinois withholding/form threshold applies. |
Retail payment always depends on successful Lottery validation. Claim Center visits are appointment-only.
Each eligible individual retail ticket must be $10,000 or less to use e-Claim; an eligible iLottery online win must be from $601 through $10,000. Combining qualifying smaller tickets or online wins above $10,000 does not disqualify them, but each is submitted separately. These navigator routes assume an individual claimant: group and corporation claims cannot use e-Claim and must be claimed in person at a Claim Center appointment. e-Claim pays by mailed check.
For a mail-eligible prize below $1,000,000, the complete claim must be received by the Illinois Lottery before the applicable deadline. A postmark alone is not enough. Do not mail a $1,000,000-or-more claim.
Mail route: For mail-eligible prizes below $1,000,000: Illinois Lottery Claims Department, P.O. Box 19080, Springfield, IL 62794-9912. Use the current claim form, registered USPS and enough time for the complete claim to be received before the deadline. A $1,000,000-or-more prize must follow the Department-site route in its amount row and must not be mailed.
Tax test: The Illinois tax test uses the amount of one payment, not the amount of one ticket. If multiple prizes are combined in one payment, confirm whether the payment reaches $1,000 even when each selected ticket is below that amount.
Deadline by product family
| Product family | General claim clock | Separate decision | Record that starts the clock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Draw games — Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3 and Pick 4 | One year after the drawing. Lucky Day Lotto EZmatch is the exception: claim within 365 days of the first draw date printed on the retail ticket. | For a Mega Millions, Powerball or Lotto jackpot, choose the cash option within 60 days of the drawing; a later timely claim is annuity-only. | Official draw record plus the physical ticket or online account purchase record; the printed first draw date controls the EZmatch exception. |
| HotWins | One year after the drawing. | No 60-day cash-option rule in this page. | Draw ID/time plus the original physical ticket. |
| Fast Play | One year after purchase, because the drawing occurs when the ticket is generated. | No 60-day cash-option rule in this page. | Printed purchase time or online transaction record. |
| Instant Tickets | One year after the Lottery’s announced game end date. | Check the current official expiration table; purchase date is not the deadline source. | Named game/end-date record plus the original physical ticket. |
Current Illinois Lottery Games and Purchase Channels
This is a dated channel and schedule snapshot, not a live jackpot or results feed. Use the official game page before purchase because schedules can change.
| Product group | Retail purchase | Official web/app | Current draw or result timing | Claim-proof boundary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Powerball and Mega Millions | Yes. | Yes; individual draws or subscriptions. | Powerball: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. CT. Mega Millions: Tuesday and Friday at 10:00 p.m. CT. | Physical ticket or official account transaction; current numbers remain on the official Results Hub. |
| Lotto and Lucky Day Lotto | Yes; Lucky Day Lotto EZmatch is a retail-only add-on. | Yes; individual draws or subscriptions, but not EZmatch. | Lotto: Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 9:22 p.m. CT. Lucky Day Lotto: daily at 12:40 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. CT. | Physical ticket or official account transaction. An EZmatch prize uses 365 days from the first draw date printed on its retail ticket. |
| Pick 3 and Pick 4 | Yes. | Yes; individual draws or subscriptions. | Daily at 12:40 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. CT. | Physical ticket or official account transaction. |
| Fast Play | Yes, including the Scan-N-Play retail flow. | Yes. | Drawing occurs immediately when the ticket is generated. | Printed retail ticket or official online record; Scan-N-Play remains a physical-ticket claim. |
| Instant Tickets | Yes. | No. | No scheduled draw; current game catalog and announced end dates are dynamic. | Original physical ticket; scanner result is not final validation. |
| HotWins | Yes; retail-only. | No. | Every four minutes from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. CT in the checked schedule. | Original physical ticket plus draw ID/time; current results remain on the official route. |
Do not infer that an official app feature makes every Lottery product purchasable online. Instant Tickets and HotWins remain retail-only in this checked snapshot.
For an ordinary retail purchase, an eligible buyer must be 18 or older and physically present at the Illinois Lottery retailer; the iLottery residence/account condition does not apply to that retail transaction. A ticket may not be bought or furnished for a minor, and no prize is paid to a minor. Age alone does not override the Lottery Law/rules for covered Board, Department or private-manager personnel and specified same-household relatives.
Online Illinois Lottery Account Gates
Retail age eligibility and online-account eligibility are not the same test. All six online gates must be satisfied for an official web/app purchase.
| Gate | Required result | Failure result | Record to keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Age, Illinois residence and prohibited-person check | Be 18 or older, certify Illinois residence, provide a current valid Illinois address and pass the official identity/eligibility check. Current Lottery Law/rules also bar covered Board, Department or private-manager personnel and specified same-household relatives. | Do not register, purchase or claim if the official check shows the person is barred. Age, residence and geolocation alone do not cure prohibited-person status; underage/out-of-state-account violations can forfeit Internet winnings. | Verified account/eligibility result; do not store it on this page. |
| One personal account | Use one Illinois Lottery account and the same credentials on the official website and app; access is limited to the registered user. | Do not share, transfer or create a second account. | Account email/name and official account communications. |
| Purchase geolocation | Enable device/browser location and be physically inside Illinois for every Internet ticket or subscription purchase. | Account access outside Illinois does not authorize purchase; wait until the device is verified in Illinois. | Transaction time/location result shown in the official account. |
| Eligible online product | Choose only Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3, Pick 4 or Fast Play in the official account. | Buy Instant Tickets or HotWins only through the retail channel. | Game and purchase/transaction ID. |
| Funding and transaction record | Use an accepted credit/debit card or available winnings balance and confirm the purchase appears in Transaction History. | A deposit, cart selection, subscription setup or failed transaction is not proof that a ticket was purchased. | Successful transaction and My Games record. |
| Exclusion, refund and subscription boundary | Confirm the account is eligible and review any subscription before the next draw purchase occurs. | A person in the applicable exclusion database cannot set up/use the account; completed Internet tickets are non-refundable. Canceling a subscription stops future eligible purchases, not tickets already bought. | Subscription status, cancellation confirmation and completed purchase records. |
An Illinois Lottery online account authorizes only the named Lottery products. It is not an Illinois online-casino, sportsbook or VGT account.
Check a Result Without Losing the Claim
-
1Use the official result route
Check the Illinois Lottery Results Hub, named game result/Number Checker or the official account’s My Games record. Do not rely on a search snippet or third-party number page.
Failure boundary: A displayed match is a reason to preserve the record, not final validation.
-
2Secure the controlling purchase record
For a retail ticket, sign the designated back area, copy both sides and secure the original. For online play, save the transaction and account record.
Failure boundary: A lost/stolen assertion, screenshot or scanner message does not replace the physical ticket or central record.
-
3Match the product and amount
Use the deadline family and the value of one ticket/online wager, not the total of unrelated tickets.
Failure boundary: Do not use cumulative e-Claim value to make an individually over-$10,000 ticket eligible.
-
4Choose one official claim route
Use retailer only where allowed, or choose Claim Center appointment, mail, e-Claim or high-tier coordination from the navigator.
Failure boundary: Do not submit the same physical ticket through multiple routes; mail must be received before deadline and is not available for a $1,000,000-or-more claim.
Keep the Claim Record
| Record | Exact contents | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Physical ticket | Signed original in secure storage; clear copy/photo of front and back; game, draw/purchase time and expected amount. | The valid physical ticket and validation control the claim. |
| Online purchase | Account name/email, game, purchase/transaction ID, date/time, wager amount and My Games/Transaction History entry. | The central account record controls and identity must match. |
| Result check | Official result or Number Checker path and the date checked; account win notice where applicable. | Supports triage but does not itself validate or guarantee payment. |
| Identity and claim forms | Completed current claim form/winner questionnaire; photo ID and proof of SSN where required; matching online-account information. | Claim Center and high-tier processing require current identity records. |
| Submission receipt | Chosen route, appointment confirmation, e-Claim confirmation or registered-mail tracking plus copies of everything submitted. | Shows what was sent and when; does not extend the deadline. |
| Payment and tax record | Lottery correspondence, check/direct-deposit record, IL-5754 and withholding statement where applicable. | Needed for recordkeeping and later tax work; withholding is not final liability. |
Before enrolling in full Illinois Lottery self-exclusion, read the agreement and call the Player Hotline if you need to understand its effect on a ticket or claim you already hold. The current agreement can bar cash and non-cash prize claims.
What the Check Does Not Prove
| Visible signal | It proves | It does not prove | Correct next check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official result, Number Checker or scanner message | The entered/scanned record appears to match current first-party result data. | That a physical ticket is valid, unaltered, owned by the holder or payable. | Preserve the ticket/account record and use Lottery validation through one claim route. |
| Official online-account access | The registered user can view the account where access is allowed. | That an out-of-state purchase is allowed, every Lottery product is online or any online casino game is authorized. | Recheck residence/account status, in-state geolocation and the exact online product. |
| Store Locator result | A location is presented by the Lottery as a consumer retail route in the current locator. | A formal public license-register result, distributor authority, guaranteed inventory or guaranteed cash for a prize. | Use the locator for availability; use the authorized-providers owner for role semantics and confirm payment with the retailer/Lottery. |
| Confidentiality request for $250,000 or greater | The winner requested protection of name and municipality in writing at claim time. Without the request, the Lottery says it routinely publishes the winner’s name, home city and amount. | Absolute anonymity or immunity from a required FOIA disclosure. | Use the current claim form and obtain qualified advice for a specific publicity/privacy decision. |
| Illinois withholding and Form IL-5754 | A single Illinois Lottery payment reached the current state withholding/form threshold. | Final Illinois or federal tax liability, refund, filing status or after-tax proceeds. | Keep the payment/withholding record and use current official tax guidance or a qualified adviser. |
| Lottery self-exclusion enrollment | The signed program terms apply to the selected exclusion path. | A reversible cooling-off button or a claim-neutral action. | Read the agreement first; the full program can bar online/in-store play and cash/non-cash prize claims. Call the Player Hotline for program questions. |
