Bonus Terms Safety Glossary
Bonus terms matter because they can lock funds, cap withdrawals, restrict games, or make a large headline offer impractical.
This glossary explains terms before activation; it does not list bonuses or recommend offers.
Which bonus term should stop you before activation?
Terms to check before activating a bonus
- Wagering requirement
- The amount of qualifying betting required before bonus-linked winnings may be withdrawable. Check whether it applies to bonus only or deposit plus bonus.
- Game contribution
- The percentage of each bet that counts toward wagering. A 10% contribution can make the practical burden ten times larger.
- Max cashout
- A cap on how much can be withdrawn from bonus-linked winnings. It can dominate the entire value of an offer.
- Maximum bet while wagering
- A limit on bet size while the bonus is active. Exceeding it can void bonus-linked winnings under some terms.
- Expiry
- The deadline for using or clearing a bonus. Short expiry can make a bonus unsuitable for your bankroll or pace.
Bonus value erosion ladder
- Headline amount: the advertised bonus number.
- Eligible games: games that actually count toward terms.
- Contribution rate: how much each wager contributes.
- Max bet: the bet-size ceiling while wagering.
- Expiry: the deadline before value disappears.
- Max cashout: the final cap on withdrawable bonus-linked winnings.
- KYC or pending review: account checks before withdrawal.
Terms beginners often confuse
| Pair | Difference |
|---|---|
| Bonus balance vs cash balance | One may be restricted by terms; the other may be withdrawable depending on operator rules. |
| Bonus-only wagering vs deposit-plus-bonus wagering | The same multiplier can create very different playthrough burden. |
| Free spins vs free-spin winnings | The spins may have no direct cost, but winnings may still be capped or wagered. |
When the terms are a stop sign
- Max cashout is low compared with wagering burden.
- Eligible games do not match the games you intend to play.
- Expiry forces faster or riskier play than planned.
- Withdrawal restrictions are unclear.
